Prof. Abdulrahman H. Al-Mutairi is a distinguished academic specializing in Comparative Jurisprudence and Islamic Politics (Siyasa Shar'iyya). He possesses extensive experience in higher education, scholarly research, and academic administration. Professor Al-Mutairi earned his PhD in Jurisprudence and its Principles from The University of Jordan in 2007, graduating with the highest honors and ranking first in the university. His dissertation focused on "Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and Their Implications in Islamic Jurisprudence." Additionally, he obtained a Master’s degree in Sharia from the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Kuwait University in 2003 with distinction. His thesis centered on the editing and study of Al-Durra Al-Yatima wa Al-Mahajjah Al-Mustaqima by Yahya bin Yusuf Al-Sarsari (d. 656 AH), from the chapter on deposits to the chapter on apostates. He received his Bachelor’s degree from The Islamic University of Madinah in 1998, graduating with excellence.


Career Progression

Professor Al-Mutairi began his academic career as an Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies at the College of Basic Education from 2008 to 2013. He then joined the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Kuwait University, where he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Jurisprudence and Islamic Policy until 2018. He was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor and later to Full Professor in 2022. Currently, he holds the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Sharia and Islamic Studies while actively engaging in academic and administrative responsibilities within the college.


Scholarly Contributions

Professor Al-Mutairi is a leading researcher in the fields of Jurisprudence and its Principles. He has published numerous peer-reviewed studies addressing contemporary jurisprudential issues and related legal matters. Among his notable research works are:

  • “The Effectiveness of Using Mind Maps and Cognitive Planning in Enhancing Conceptual Understanding among Students in Sharia Colleges.”
  • “Law No. 13 of 2016 Regulating Commercial Agencies: A Foundational and Comparative Study.”
  • “Prayer-Related Contemporary Issues Arising from the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Jurisprudential Study.”
  • “Franchise Contracts and Their Rulings in Islamic Jurisprudence: A Comparative Study with Commercial Law.”
  • “The Testimony of Non-Muslims: A Foundational Study Compared to Kuwaiti Law.”

He has also contributed to the authorship and editing of several academic textbooks used in universities, including:

  • Introduction to Islamic Jurisprudence
  • Explanation of the Hadiths on Rulings (co-authored with Professor Adel Al-Mutairat)
  • Simplified Islamic Financial Transactions
  • Editing Mukhtasar Al-Tahrir in Usul Al-Fiqh by Muhammad bin Ahmad Al-Futuhi.

Supervision and Academic Engagement

Professor Al-Mutairi has supervised numerous doctoral and master’s theses in the fields of Jurisprudence and its Principles, in addition to guiding undergraduate projects in Islamic Finance Diploma programs. He has served as a discussant and reviewer for a significant number of academic theses, and he has reviewed over 100 research articles submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Furthermore, he has contributed to evaluating faculty promotion applications at various universities.


Administrative and Academic Roles

Currently serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Sharia and Islamic Studies (2024/2025), Professor Al-Mutairi has also held several notable administrative positions, including:

  • Director of the Doctoral and Master’s Program in Jurisprudence and Its Principles (2023/2024).
  • Director of the Islamic Finance Diploma Program (2021–2023).
  • Member of the External Review Committee for the Ministry of Education in the UAE (2020–2021).
  • Member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Sharia and Islamic Studies (2019–2023).
  • Member of the Graduate Students’ University Award Committee (2018/2019).
  • Active participant in curriculum development, promotions, and academic performance evaluation committees at both college and university levels.
