Abstract

This research looks at the linguistic structure of the phrase "Akluni Albaraghith" (fleas ate me) through the lens of functional lexical theory. It addresses the issue of multiple agents for a single verb in this structure. The study looks at how ancient linguists and contemporary researchers interpret this linguistic phenomenon. However, it uses linguistic heritage data and the principles of the functional lexical theory developed by the American researcher Bresnan, which was used by al-Fahri to describe this linguistic phenomenon. The descriptive-analytical methodology was used in the study, which incorporated ideas from the transformational generative grammar school.

This research is crucial for interpreting and contextualizing the linguistic structure, considering the speaker's mental state and the discourse context, and revealing the semantic impact and underlying structure. Additionally, it seeks to aid in language learners' comprehension.

The study concentrated solely on this specific construction because of its popularity. All linguists concur that it violates the grammatical order. The complexity of other examples of this linguistic phenomenon has caused disagreements among linguists, leading some to exclude them because the pronoun refers to a preceding noun that they involve.

The study concluded that the suffix ‘waw’ stands in for the subject pronoun and that the structure "Akluni albaraghith" stands in for a major sentence that follows the formula "(Verb+Subject+Object)" indicating a fronted predicate and subject. The way the parts of the sentence are arranged reveals the mood and mental state of the speaker.
