Abstract

Ibn al-Ameed’s letters serve as fundamental models for the study of text grammars. These letters contain internal and external textual structures that affect and influence the communicative function of the text, according to both the Western as well as the classical and modern Arabic lexicon. This paper aims to examine Ibn al-Ameed’s letters in order to confirm all the levels of the theory of text grammar. The paper employed a descriptive approach to study the letters and studied the text models in their full form. The paper concludes with several results including the following: Ibn al-Ameed uses the techniques of deletion and connection in his letters. These are two important aspects for textual coherence. Moreover, the phonetic aspect allows for the formation of the highest levels of textual coherence in the letters. The latter has been described by the science of text grammar as one of the most important factors of textual coherence.
